Change Day 2014 - My Pledge

Posted By Agata Mouasher

I support Change Day!

I pledge to provide my community with information, awareness and education that emphasises health and wellbeing rather than treating illness.

Health information, for the public and professionals, exists in vast quantities. Language can be negative, its effect emphasising threats, magnifying fears and creating dependency. Much health information, especially advertising from hospital and pharmaceutical companies, uses these techniques to emphasise sickness over health. Many complementary health approaches, like Kanetica™, focus on the inherent healthiness of the body and its natural ability to heal. As health professionals, we have a duty to emphasise messages of what is right with us, and inspire trust in the body’s ability to heal itself, once a healthy path is taken.  We need to hear messages of what is right with us, and inspire trust in the body’s ability to heal itself, once a healthy path is taken. We are, by design inherently healthy.

If people have a sense of helplessness in the face of danger, they do not act upon their own feelings and perceptions.  Taking a pill ignores peoples’ emotional needs and the complex connection between body and mind. We need health information that emphasises the idea that people are inherently healthy.

Change Day is all about each of us Making a Pledge to do one thing (or many things) to improve the health and wellbeing of others. What pledge can you make to improve patient, client and consumer health outcomes? We will join together across Australia to demonstrate how one simple action or new idea can make a difference and improve care for clients, consumers and patients, their families and their carers. On 6 March 2014 we will celebrate the mountain of pledges that we have all made and the improvements we have achieved. We are aiming for 50,000 pledges by 6 March, 2014. Make your pledge and then tell someone about it!
